Katrina Brownlee, a woman who nearly lost her life from her ex-fiance, struggled through the difficult phases of her life and served 20 years in the NYPD before she finally retired in 2021.

She served for 20 years in the police department but did not let anyone know her sufferings, fearing that the authorities would fire her. She knew that the department would not want anyone who had become a victim of domestic abuse.

NYPD undercover Katrina Brownlee was a single mother when she met Alex Irvin, a Rikers Island prison officer. She was 18 years old with one child.
The two started dating and had a kid together. While she believed that he would help and support her, he, on the other hand, began abusing her physically almost immediately after their relationship began.
She shared that she tried calling 911 many times but received no response. When officers arrived and saw Irvin's badge, she claimed they would depart without providing her required assistance.

However, after silently tolerating years of abuse from her fiance, she decided to leave him with her two daughters. But horror was waiting for her when she returned to Irvin's house to get some of her clothes.
He was waiting for her with his service gun in his hands. Over one and half hours, he shot ten bullets at her, six of which entered her body.
Luckily, one of Irvin's friends visited his home and found Katrina bleeding on a bathroom floor. He rushed her to the hospital, surprisingly, with Irvin's help.
Doctors had difficulty removing six bullets from her body and told her that she might never walk again. However, she defied the odds and began walking with the help of therapists.
And, about her fiance, an attorney gathered substantial evidence of his acts and helped her get away from him.
